DUTCH BAKERY

The Beginning

1980

It all began in 1980 when two brothers-in-law and their Father-in-law bought Dutch Bakery (the reason our bags feature a windmill and a dutch girl!) which was located on Mountain Avenue in Winkler, Manitoba. They changed the name to Valley Bakery and Pastry Shop and three years later moved the bakery to 251 Main Street where it still stands today. Jerry Penner bought his Father and Brother in-law out in 1983 and continued to operate the bakery, building the business into a retail and wholesale full line bakery offering fresh baked bread and pastries. The business grew and so did its reach, sending trucks of fresh bread and pastries out to stores and restaurants in communities around southern Manitoba.

New Ownership

2005

After 25 years in business, two of Jerry’s sons bought the bakery, eleven years later Andrew Penner bought his brother out and continues to run Valley Bakery with the same commitment to scratch made, quality products that taste as close to home-made as possible which have been the signature of Valley Bakery all these years.

The Present

Valley Bakery has grown to servicing 2 routes delivering bakery products around southern Manitoba and into Winnipeg and expanding our product line to include new specialty breads including our own sourdough breads made with a four day process using a starter created in our very own kitchen.

  • We offer 4 varieties of sourdough made in-house with a six-year-old starter

  • We offer nearly 2 dozen varieties of donuts almost every day. Our donuts and cinnamon buns are made fresh Monday through Friday.
